Choosing the right photographer for YOU!

With professional photographers springing up everywhere these days, its more important than ever to educate yourself when choosing the right photographer for you and your family.  We’ve complied a list of things we think is important to consider when choosing your photographer.

  1. How long has the photographer been in business?
Here at Sprouts Photography, our photographer has been a working photographer since 2003.  This may not be that important to you if their portfolio is awesome, however if things do go wrong (and they sometimes do), having that experience will definitely come in handy.
  2. Portfolio, have you looked at it?
Word of mouth, referrals, a great deal, there a lots of reasons that may bring you to a photographer, but make sure you check out their portfolio and like what you see.  What is appealing to your friend may not be your style, and that’s OK.  On the flip-side, don’t be disappointed if you book a photographer knowing they have a vintage style and yet you didn’t get that modern/contemporary style you wanted.
  3. Pricing, do you understand it?
This is a big one.  We as photographers know that to many the price can be a deal-breaking.  Another factor is that you, the consumer is a bit confused on why Jane down the street charges X dollars for everything on a CD yet we are asking X dollars just for a session.  The bottom line comes down to asking for clarification.  We at Sprouts can explain why we charge what we do, why its worth every penny and what you can expect every step of the way.
  4. Personality, it does count!
We think that how we interact with you and your family is probably the most important role we have as a photographer.  Sure its important to take beautiful photos, however if your kids don’t connect with us, how can we capture their beauty?  We like to think we are forming a relationship with you and your family that will hopefully last for many years, its important that you like us!  If you don’t jive well with your photographer… move on!
We hope this helps you out when deciding on who to go with.  I think the moral of this story is communication.  Make sure you really talk with your potential photographer and get clarity on all these points.  Remember its a collaboration!
